This area provides access to the works in progress of the STEP and SGML harmonization effort. This activity is an attempt to "harmonize" the STEP and SGML families of standards to enable interoperation of STEP- and SGML-based information and supporting tools. The primary thrust of this activity is defining the formal mapping between the abstract data model of STEP (repositories of entities with attributes) and SGML (groves of nodes with properties). The work is being conducted under the eigis of ISO TC184/SC4/WG11, the Architecture working group of the STEP standards committee. There is formal liaison between TC184/SC4 and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34, the subcommittee responsible for the SGML family of standards.
